The house is located on a hill in Portugal and its architecture takes advantage of its views of the surrounding nature.

“From anywhere in the house, you have a sense of the outdoors,” says Melonie, “and yet it’s very private.” Ikegami agrees. “The building was really about the landscape—it can dissolve into the background,” he says. In the master bedroom, Japanese Tansu chests from the couple’s previous home flank a Duxiana bed. The full-height windows and swing door are from Western Window Systems.

Their office is at the front of the property, with their home behind.

The staircase is made from oriented strand board, an affordable, sustainable, and durable material.

Each family member received a batch of modular pine-wood furniture elements to distribute around the house.

The 1960s home sits nestled on an elevated lot in Pasadena's popular San Rafael Hills neighborhood, encompassed by mature Eucalyptus trees and lush vegetation.

A light-filled corner home office awaits on the upper level, complete with outdoor access.

The farmhouse came with plenty of land for farming and livestock.

The main aim of the project was to create a functional and beautiful kitchen that would let the parents keep an eye on their children's activities while they were cooking.

The dining room features a tongue-and- groove Douglas fir ceiling. Original built-ins include a mahogany bench anchored between cabinets whose fronts tilt at the house’s signature 15-degree angle.

The estate offers multiple covered outdoor spaces for casual entertaining. Both the Greenhouse and Conference Center are located just a short walk away.

The kitchen, located just around the corner of the living room, offers direct outdoor access. Stone floors run throughout both spaces, paying homage to Bertrand Goldberg's initial vision of providing a stark contrast with the interior glass walls.

One of the most notable features is the massive stone fireplace, complete with eight flues. Expansive glazing wraps around the main living areas, framing sweeping waterfront views.
