Originally built in 1961, this fully renovated midcentury desert home near downtown Joshua Tree, California has national park and valley views—plus loads of style and flair. Surrounded by native landscaping, the 1,307-square-foot house is defined by a simple, yet distinctive brise-soleil which shades the patio and a portion of the living space from the strong desert sun.

Inside, the open-plan living space boasts a cozy living room with a wood-burning fireplace that overlooks the patio and the desert beyond. A compact dining nook leads to the home's minimalist and efficient updated kitchen, which features custom walnut cabinetry and quartz countertops.

There are two bedrooms, one bath, and around the back, a one-room “guest pod” could serve as an additional bedroom or a writing/art studio. And, just in case your parents or best friends want to move in next door: The adjacent lot is also available for purchase.
