The couple’s architect, Dan Kaplan of Bowerbird Architects, envisioned a modern addition in this corner of the building that is clad in standing seam metal, to house the two new bathrooms and preserve the original architecture.
The Pond House has a standing-seam roof and wall panels made of Cor-Ten steel that throw the forest around it into relief.
At the lower left, polycarbonate panels glow under the cantilevered, vertically-seamed sheet-metal facade.

The exteriors of the two structures, the updated cabin, and the "modern box" addition were tied together with a standing seam metal facade. This helped give the connected complex a contemporary, industrial-inspired vibe.

Copper cladding will patina over time. Horizontally articulated windows and standing seams give the facade a sleek, streamlined presence.
When Alex or Bruce leave the island, closing up shop is as simple as sliding panels of corrugated metal into place to protect the windows.
Wrapped in standing-seam aluminum metal panels, the new addition is artful and subdued. Modern yet discreet, the dark tone and slanted roof allow the addition to fade behind the original structure and roof.
The 925-square-foot house Maggie Treanor calls home blends into the landscape somewhat; with a galvanized steel shed roof and siding, it looks like a high-design little brother to the barns on the surrounding farms.
