The 1950 Eichler home in Palo Alto, California, that Ogawa Fisher Architects renovated for a family of five features a cool gray facade punctuated by a bright orange front door.

Sunshine flows through a large gridded skylight to illuminate an atrium at the heart of the home.

Since the screened porch was an addition to the original volume, the architects had it finished in channeled concrete to mark its difference.

The modest entry to the cottage opens up to steeply angled ceilings for dramatic spatial effect.

A calming vibe is immediately instilled at the entry.

Ren von Hasseln studied architecture before founding Ren Ceramics, and she drew from both experiences as she transformed her midcentury ranch house in Ojai, California. Ren led the renovation of the property and crafted ceramic details found throughout the interior.

The home's proximity to the river required extensive site preparation to comply with the requirements of the high-flood zone, to the tune of $80K.

Materials were carefully selected for their durability and patina potential. A slatted exterior done in Western Cedar offers privacy while referencing the tall trees fringing the site, in respect for the surrounding landscape.

The interior doors were replaced with flush, solid core doors painted Farrow & Ball Inchyra Blue.

Scott Glass, cofounder of New York–based firm Guerin Glass Architects, designed this six-bedroom retreat in Amagansett on Long Island for himself and his wife, former MSNBC host JJ Ramberg. The Hamptons residence comprises three volumes clad in cypress, cedar, and glass.

The white oak millwork and clerestory window seamlessly meet in the primary bedroom. “The light from the bedroom that's coming in from those [exterior] windows gets to permeate over the millwork and fill the entryway, drawing you inside,” says Neufeld.
