Forty-seven years ago, Peter and Turkey Stremmel opened Stremmel Gallery, one of the first fine-art showplaces in Reno. They went on to exhibit work there by such luminaries as Wolf Kahn, Charles Arnoldi, and Phyllis Shafer. The same architect who designed the gallery, Mark Mack, designed their home, a cluster of colorful cubes in the mountains above the city.

When the blinds are up, the owners can take in the Old Southwest neighborhood from their bed, a custom design.

The Yang sectional and Dibbets rug are both from Minotti; the coffee tables are by Eric Freyer.

A custom sink by Vola in the kitchen has a twin on the outside for washing vegetables from the roof garden before bringing them indoors. The shelves are made of wood from trees felled on-site. The main house, visible in the background, was the designers’ first residential commission.

“It's a hidden door, so you just push it open and it's on springs and it returns back to its closed spot, and you don't even know that it's there unless you push on it,” says Nate of the scullery’s entrance.

Nestled between the courtyard and veranda, the open-concept living area effortlessly extends to the outdoors through a series of aluminum clad folding glass walls.

The couple loves to entertain, and the oversized kitchen island is the perfect place to prep. The countertop is quartz; the backsplash, hot-rolled steel. Barstools are from Pottery Barn. Lighting was sourced from West Elm.

NanaWall folding glass walls are engineered to perform in harsh climates, including the snowy winters of the Methow Valley.

The bunk room features four extra-long bunk beds, allowing the home to sleep 10.

The husband requested a pass-through window in the kitchen for easy entertaining.

Black-stained cedar and leathered concrete counters lend drama to the kitchen. The bar stools are from Blu Dot.

The sliding garage door was made by local fabricator Anomal.
