A cozy breakfast nook at the front of the house gets a glimmer of soft morning light.

In the new dining room, the firm surrounded a table commissioned from Ross Didier with Half Hurdle chairs in white and oak from Doweljones. An Ora pendant from Ross Gardam hangs above the table.

The dining room was opened up to the living room and kitchen for a greater feeling of openness. The dining table set is from the DWR cross collection and is complemented with Tom Dixon pendants to create an intimate feel.

The dining room overlooks the smaller southern courtyard, with chairs by Meizai and a sculpture by Den Holm. The floors are engineered oak throughout.

In the dining room, a vintage dining set belonging to the client is offset by the painted brick wall of the original house. Lowered ceilings in the eating area give it an intimacy within the larger space.

Janelle turned the divider wall next to the dining table into a focal point with a peel-and-stick wallpaper from Target's Opalhouse collection. Various knickknacks, many of which were thrifted, are put on display.

Alts Design Office replaced all the old insulation materials and moved the living room from the first floor to the second floor.

The large spans of glass provide unlimited views to the outdoor landscape.

Naber defined the dining area with a wood beam treatment at the ceiling. "Our general contractor suggested raising the ceiling when we added the dining room so that the new space looked intentional and not a distinct add-on," Naber says. "So we upped the vertical height and decided to fill the extra area in with decorative beams."

In the new dining room, the wall is lined with built-in maple cabinetry and topped with a white quartz counter. Naber defined the bar area with floating shelves and a backsplash composed of Glazed Brick tile from Clé Tile. Knowing that the large expanse of the back wall would draw the eye, Naber wanted a unique installation for it: the Roke mural wallpaper from Anewall. "This was one of the main ideas I had going into this addition," Naber says. "I love how it looks like the ocean and really ties the indoor in with the outdoor."

The dining area has a large table where family members can sit together but engage in different activities, exemplifying how a space can be at once communal and private.
