Architect William Massie design this hybrid prefab home for vintage furniture designed in upstate New York with a curtain wall constructed with steel supports and sandwiched layers of birch plywood and amber acrylic.

Birch plywood floating cabinets line the wall, carving out room for a painting that commands the dining room. The rest of the decor is quiet with subtle pops of greenery to echo the striking piece.

The dining area features a limited-edition lamp from Habitat.

A George Nelson Saucer Pendant hangs over the table. Behind it, a vertical slot window frames a Douglas fir tree while editing out the windows of a nearby town house. “All the openings were composed in direct response to appealing fragments of the site and to avoid relationships that would leave the owners feeling exposed,” Schaer says.

The bach’s beachfront site is nestled behind sand dunes with views toward Kapiti Island, a nature sanctuary.

Kim reads the newspaper in the all-white kitchen. White paint, which requires fewer coats than color, was a money-saving strategy. The desk chairs and aluminum lounge chair are both Eames, courtesy of Fernandez’s scavenging.

An icy-blue Kartell FL/Y pendant light adds a distinctly contemporary touch to the rustic English basement level.

Oskar and Karl, 12 and 9, share breakfast at their family’s summer getaway in Sweden. The table is from ILVA, and the CH36 chairs by Hans Wegner are from Carl Hansen & Søn.
