(There’s an app for that, naturally, and it works quite seamlessly.) You can choose either a black or white perforated steel top shade, each of which is neutral enough to fit in any decor. At 2.12 pounds, it’s easy to lift and move but still extremely stable. The $249 price tag feels expensive for a lamp that weighs less than a sack of potatoes, plus there are less pricy options available— Govee’s similarly purposed Aura Table Lamp is $65— but considering the Loftie's features and claims of better sleep hygiene improvements, it seems fairly priced.

The Assembly

My intense dislike for assembling stuff is well-documented, but setting up Miss Loftie only took a few minutes. The lamp shade and the base arrived in separate labeled and diagrammed cardboard boxes. I plugged in the base and set the shade on top of it, used my phone to scan the accompanying QR code to complete the set up, and after a few minutes, it was glowing and ready to put me to bed.

The Mood-Setting Modes

I cannot tell a lie: I had way too much fun toying around with Loftie’s settings. Initially, I was curious but a little skeptical of whether I’d actually benefit from using it. Sure, it’s cute, cozy, and undeniably popular, but would it actually help me curb my detrimental sleeping habits? I use it to help me locate random objects in the dark instead of my flashlight app (because what happens when I can’t find my phone?). The sunrise alarm is probably my least-used mode, but it’s absolutely a less jarring wakeup signal than a vibrating phone or a song that comes on at full blast. Instead, it’s more like a gentle tap on the shoulder.

My favorite, though, is custom mode, a Wi-Fi enabled feature that operates through the Loftie app: it offers 30 landscape and element-inspired mood lighting options that won the ultimate stamp of approval from my roommate’s 6-year-old son who declared it to be “very impressive!” My most used setting is Santa Fe, a blue and purple light show that gently reminds my brain that it’s time to chill. I also appreciate the ability to set an off timer on the app so there’s no need to remember to switch the lamp off manually.
