The new kitchen features green kit kat tiles, a terrazzo-effect rubber floor, white cabinetry, and cherry wood veneered cabinets. The client originally wanted teak cabinets, but 4 S Architecture recommended using cherry wood instead as it is more sustainable but has the same warm tones as teak. “We couldn’t get behind teak as a product so we used FSC certified European cherry that has less air miles than American cherry,” explains architect Julia Hamson. “The client was really pleased with the result.”
The kitchen is outfitted with Henrybuilt cabinetry and Heath Ceramics tile on the backsplash. Modern matte black can lights by Cedar & Moss illuminate the bar.

In the kitchen, the couple prepare a meal. The Multiform island is topped in Corian; the oven and hood is from Wolf.
Wieler and Tung wanted a space conducive to entertaining, and this open kitchen delivers. It features a stainless steel refrigerator, Pro-Style gas range, hood, backsplash, and two-rack tub dishwasher, all from Jenn-Air. The ebony countertop, which allows the chef to interact easily with guests, is from Caesarstone. The distinctive faucet and Poise kitchen sink are from Kohler. Maple cabinets by Merillat (installed flush with the wall to save space and look sleek) provide ample storage space for all kitchen essentials. The under-counter storage space holds Victoria china designed by Oscar Tusquets for Driade. The bread board was designed by Antonio Citterio for Iittala’s Tools collection. The wine rack and oil/vinegar cruets are from Rosendahl.
Helgerson selected white Savoy 1”x4” stacked tiles from Ann Sacks for both the kitchen and bathroom.
Gliss swivel stools and a Dowel bar stool share space in front of a custom maple kitchen island. The pendant lamps are by Lightolier.
The firm opened up the closed off kitchen, orienting it in the center of the living space.
Nicolas Gervais designed the pendant lights above the kitchen island, which was designed by Plasse and built by woodworker Stéphane Bilodeau.
O’Sullivan designed the ceiling “to have a knitted or woven quality like that of wool or silk.” It dives down over the kitchen and dining area, eventually reaching a point at the entry that is low enough to touch. Here, resident Jes Wood leans against the onyx kitchen island while her daughter Ruby hangs out. Replica Jean Prouvé chairs surround the dining table; a vase by Bruce and Estelle Martin for Kamaka Pottery sits on top. The Reel table under the television is by Atelier Oï for B&B Italia.
"The kitchen is pretty astonishing, really, considering it’s 40 years old," says resident Louise Jenkins. Large square tiles in green with sunflowers compliment the cabinets' natural wood finish.
