This complete remodel of a classic shingle-style house involved gutting the structure to its studs, removing various additions that had been added over the years, and rebuilding and expanding the house with a 950 square foot addition to the rear.

Although located on one of the best streets in Presidio Heights, the house was cramped and quite out-dated, having an uncomfortable formality that did not work for our clients with their four active boys.

The main floor maintains the formal living and dining room, while the remainder of the house now expands to create a large great room with open kitchen geared toward family activities, with a large exterior deck providing space for BBQing and direct access to the backyard.

The second floor was reconfigured and expanded to have four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with the master suite enjoying the quietude and views at the rear.

Below, a full floor was excavated to create an active zone; a study, wine room, gym, laundry room, and rec room open directly onto the yard; this formerly abandoned yard was converted into a sport court that is used year round by the boys.

The basement garage was expanded to accommodate three cars.

The exterior of the house was restored to its classic lines; the formerly jerry-rigged entry was transformed into a proper elegant garden entry with security gate and code-complying staircase. All systems were updated with a total square footage just under 5,000 SF.

Working closely with Interior Designer Regina Callan, the rooms are well proportioned and beautifully appointed, while reflecting the relaxed contemporary/classic lifestyle of this modern family.
