Chicago Modern Re-Renovation - (Funk Family Home)

This home, originally built in 1875, and one of the first Gold LEED certified homes in the Midwest, was profiled previously in Dwell in March 2008 ("Windy City - A Turbine Powered Home"). The renovations were extended by both sets of subsequent owners. The current owners, the Funk Family, have made particularly significant renovations and re-invented the house into a modern, bright home. Multiple renovations were conducted across the house to provide more light and usable space as well as to integrate a theme of glass, natural wood, green plants and clean white walls. The living room / kitchen area and basement were opened up with creative uses of glass (e.g., glass floor, glass walls). A basement bedroom suite, with a full bathroom and new sunken tub, along with an exercise room and "creative room" were added. Elsewhere around the house, two new fireplaces, a loft for the dogs, a new rooftop fire pit, a wine fridge, a second laundry room, two wall planters, rooftop gardening, extensive uses of white paint were added.
