In 2014, many design and manufacturing greats are celebrating significant milestones. We take a look at some of their most popular designs.
80 years
In 1934, Piero Boffi left his job with aircraft manufacturer Caproni and established Boffi, a kitchen and bathroom company dedicated to craft-like quality. Joe Colombo's 1963 Minikitchen, a large multi-functional trolley, remains one of Boffi's most popular products. Photo courtesy of Boffi.
75 years
Established in 1949, Kartell has produced numerous products that went on to become classics, showcased in museums and homes around the world. 60 years
Founded by Aurelio Zanotta in 1954, Zanotta has established itself at the forefront of Italian design, collaborating with famed architects and designers such as Ettore Sottsass, Achille Castiglioni and Gae Aulenti. 50 years
Gerrit Rietveld’s Steltman chair has recently been reissued by Rietveld Originals to mark its fiftieth anniversary. The chair, originally designed to seat engaged couples as they choose rings at the Steltman jewelry house in The Hague, was reproduced based on Rietveld’s drawings and one of the two original chairs, currently housed in Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum.
