A luxurious rural retreat that doesn’t skimp on comfort, JR’s Hut is an off-grid glamping destination with spectacular views of the 7,000-acre Kimo Estate in Australia.

Constructed from locally sourced materials, this recently built home by Scott & Scott Architects mimics the classic A-frame.

A view of the light-filled kitchen. Due to a tiny budget, the duo couldn’t afford to buy furniture and instead used midcentury furnishings they collected in Germany and found on Bergmann’s grandparents’ property. All of the furnishings were measured beforehand, and the modular frames were designed around them to ensure the perfect fit.

A small, dilapidated 10' x 12' neighboring structure was brought back to life and is now used as an art studio and guest cottage with a Murphy bed. In total, the property can sleep 10 people comfortably.

Like a lantern in the night, the cabin glows in its wooden setting once the sun goes down.

Sticotti and his eponymous studio produced the majority of the furnishings in the house—as well as architectural elements like the steel staircase with wooden treads. The kitchen opens to a garden where Sticotti keeps his woodworking tools.
