“The master bedroom is tucked into the trees, which kind of anchors the whole composition and is also appropriate because it’s more private,” says Haesloop. It also provides the couple with a shower that looks out into the woods.

"The homeowner describing that he loved the mossy, fern understory brought the idea to my mind to be up in the trees," says architect Russ Tyson.

With floor-to-ceiling glazing lining the home, natural light becomes the prominent element of the space, helping to highlight the ever-changing seasons of the spectacular wooded vistas.

Sitting on a plateau over the rolling landscape of rural Quebec, the residence comprises three joined, gable roof structures, each oriented differently. It takes inspiration from the local farmhouses and barns of the area, whose steep rooflines help shed snow in the winter, and whose wood-clad facades traditionally used lumber from local trees.

The cross laminated timber (CLT) and steel structure was prefabricated, speeding up the building process to just three weeks.
