The architects explain, “This house has tile plank flooring throughout with no transition steps at showers and doors. And because indoor/outdoor living is an integral part of San Diego living, large glass sliding doors completely open the house to the private patio that was hidden in the prior plan layout.”
The kitchen opens to the elements thanks to sliding doors from C.R. Laurence. The anigre in the kitchen is the same employed in the master bedroom.
A 22-foot-long door allows easy access to the backyard. "We paired the lift and slide door with a retractable screen for insects and a retractable canopy above, to shade the deck and control heat gain into the house," Horowitz says.
“My favorite space in the house is the ground floor,” Policastro says. “Especially in summer when you open the windows, the garden enters into the room, and it becomes a singular space.”
