Looking out to the balcony from the master bedroom

Light wooden storage cabinets line the walls of the upper bedrooms.

In the third-floor bedroom, horizontal wood-framed casement windows by Pella open out to tree-filled views of Lake Austin and Westlake Hills. Comfortably austere, the only furniture here is the bed, two nightstands, and a marble table for books and candles. Erik designed the bed, nightstands, and marble table; the paintings are by Jair.

To access a secret play area in the 2 Bar House by Feldman Architecture, children clamber up climbing holds purchased from a local sporting goods store.

Rocha replaced unsightly carpeting in the master bedroom with yellow ochre hydraulic tiles that harmonize with the stark white walls and soft gray bedspread. The south-facing windows were kept small to ensure privacy, but they still let in plenty of light.

The chandelier in one of the bedrooms is by David Weeks.

Along one wall of the master bedroom White used Columbia Forest Product’s EcoColors panels (an FSC-certified particleboard) to create sliding closet doors.

In the master bedroom, the rocking chair is by Thonet and the bespoke rug is by Armadillo & Co.

The master bedroom includes an armoire by Kastella and a chandelier by Lambert & Fils. A portion of the ceiling was pared back to expose the underside of the original roof.

Beneath the windows in the living room and the bedroom is the clever built-in radiator screen/storage system designed by Joshua Pulver and Mike. The bedroom dresser is vintage Russel Wright.

One of the two bedrooms has simple furnishings and thoughtfully placed artwork, all in neutral tones made lively with texture and pattern.

With the house often open to the outside, dust easily drifts in. Fortunately, the concrete floor, speckled with white aggregate mix, is easy to clean.

In Toronto, a painter accustomed to crashing in his studio created an airy artistic haven with both working and living quarters for a more balanced and polished picture. The bedroom mixes a bed and lamps from IKEA with a deep, luxurious bathtub (an inexpensive model from Neptune). The artworks include original prints by New York artist Franco Mondini-Ruiz.
