The upstairs bathroom was renovated to embrace the design language of the renovated kitchen, with green kit kat tiles behind the basin and a round mirror that echoes the skylights and rounded forms of the new scheme.

The outdoor dining area is connected to the new kitchen through a fine frame double glazed sliding door by Sieger Systems. This was one of the more expensive features of the renovation—the doors and triple-glazed windows throughout cost just over $27K in total—but was essential to achieve the connection the client was looking for. The slatted screen was another important feature. “It creates a backdrop for the dining area that makes the terrace feel more like an outdoor room that is separate from the rest of the garden,” explains architect Julia Hamson.

Every Pod comes with a covered veranda

“Easy to clean and difficult to destroy”—the homeowners’ brief for their dog wash station—comes to life in the fun and functional grooming space, complete with custom penny tile which playfully spells out “WOOF.”

Hanging bookshelves in the writing nook add another element of warmth to Julie's special place.

In Heather Thompson and Sam Grady’s renovated kitchen, custom cabinetry includes a hidden filing cabinet for important family papers.

The dining area features a concrete-topped table and benches and concrete pavers lined with gravel. The oversize pendants are from Serena and Lily.

Olive-green Fireclay tile creates a spa-like experience in the bathroom and fluctuates in tone throughout the day.

There’s more concealed storage in the bathroom, this time clad in wooden tile so it blends in with the wall treatment. The flooring is terrazzo tile.

Outfitted with Woolrich linens and pillows designed by Jim’s wife, Beth Wheeler, the bed is wall-mounted with a hinge from McMaster Carr, so it can be folded up when not in use.

The master bedroom also opens onto the deck with floor-to-ceiling glass.
