The home’s large open deck “encourages people to meet in the middle,” says architect David Morris of the connective design feature. Radiating outward, the deck allows a multitude of destinations—the main house, guest house, coastline and tidal pools, dock, meadows, and forest.

A walled patio with a sunken garden takes up fully half the ground floor. Open to the sky, it allows sun and rain to enter, while the walls offer protection from the area’s constant winds. “The home takes a piece of the site into its enclosure,” says Barache.

The cast concrete countertops in the bathrooms have a soft texture that complements the timber.

The shower features timber-look tiles supplied by Earp Bros, with a cast concrete bench that mirrors the materiality of the living spaces in the home.
