While the couple splurged on Michael's dream steam shower and sauna from Aquapeutics, they saved elsewhere by opting for Ikea cabinets and Caesarstone countertops in the kitchenette.

“We value feeling over a perfect or manufactured finish,” says Kathryn, “so we jumped at anything touchy-feely, such as the droplet-like tiles cladding bathroom wing walls and structural columns that we are constantly petting.” Texture is at play everywhere, from a bathroom’s pebble-wash terrazzo floors that wrap up walls to the lush landscaping outside.

“In the bathrooms we worked with a local Mexican artist who specializes in the ancient art of Tadelakt, a waterproof plaster used for centuries in Morocco and European bath houses,” explains Santa Ana. The mottled finish of the plaster expresses the artistry of the material and its craftsperson.

Corian surfaces in the steam shower creates a warm, soft-to-the-touch finish.

Colorful tile laid in a chevron pattern enlivens the bathroom of North Cabin, where there are framed views of the desert in each room.

The bathroom had been renovated since Imar House's 1972 opening.

The master bathroom is encased in wood, from the floors and shower walls, to the vanity and toilet button plate. A small door opens to the outside.

The sauna is clad in aspen—an exception to the ubiquitous pine.

The shower features timber-look tiles supplied by Earp Bros, with a cast concrete bench that mirrors the materiality of the living spaces in the home.

Adjacent to the soaring family room is an impressive, although curiously placed, concrete silo shower embedded with glass bricks.

In the primary bath, the vanity countertop and integrated sink is done in the same micro-topping material as the room’s walls and floors.

Icy blue tiling in the generously proportioned bathroom nod to the glaciers and fjord landscapes associated with Korina's Norwegian heritage.

The same handmade robin’s egg blue and cream ceramic tile is used inside and outside of the new Fleetwood sliding door system, so that when opened it becomes one large indoor/outdoor shower experience.

Like most of the house, the master bathroom sticks to neutral colors, warm browns, and a touch of delicate blue.
