Bathroom ADU

The vanity has VG fir cabinets topped with ‘Pure White’ Caesarstone. The wall-mounted faucets are the Purist line by Kohler.

The designers were inspired by René’s upbringing in Puerto Rico, choosing Valencia tile from Fireclay to reference the colors and cobblestone streets of Old San Juan, joining it with a custom cane and wood vanity by The Build With Ethan.

Simple brass screws affix the bathroom’s antibacterial copper cladding, reclaimed from a barn roof in Connecticut, to the walls. Bronze screen frames, salvaged from buildings on Shope’s Amenia property and then cut into small decorative strips, line the bathroom door frame.

The revamped bar repeats the treatment from the kitchen, including a Fenix cabinet, quartz counter, and Schoolhouse hardware. The wallpaper is the Arcadia Pink Banana Leaf pattern by Kenneth James.

The shower also has an arched niche with the same patterned tile, and field tile also from Fireclay, in ‘White Wash’ and ‘Blue Velvet.’

The entry has a cubby for Roberta’s shoes and a branch-shaped grab bar made of bronze by British designer Phillip Watts.

Cork doesn’t absorb water, making it well suited for the backsplash in the bathroom.

The dining area is open to the kitchen, which is flanked by a set of stairs leading to a loft.

The master bath includes double vanities, a freestanding bathtub, and a hidden built-in television.

A vibrant yellow pocket door adds a playful splash of color in the bathroom/laundry area on the lower level.

On the terrace, Air chairs by Jasper Morrison for Magis surround an oak table with black trestle legs. The limestone used to build the original structure was sourced from a quarry less than a half-mile away.

In the first-floor bathroom, the mermaid backsplash Caleb carved plays off the Hygge & West “Mermaid” wallpaper.

The glass walls frame large expanses of greenery.

Inspired by Moroccan hammams, the designers used tadelakt plaster and zellige tiles in the primary bath.

“I knew it would be good,” says Trey of the primary bath, where sunlight washes the Tadelakt plaster in the tub and shower area. “I didn't know it would be this good.”
