Banquettes

The bespoke banquette was one of the most complex elements of the renovation to realize—but was one of the most important parts of realising the couple's vision. “It’s the hero of the kitchen area,” says homeowner Leila D'Angelo. “We use it all the time, and everyone’s always like, oh my God, I’m getting in that.”

“All our inspiration was France, Italy, Morocco, Greece—just not England,” says homeowner Leila D’Angelo. “We deviated quickly from the idea of a ‘renovated Victorian house’ and leaned into something much more Mediterranean, because that’s what felt authentic to us.”

An Aria table from Room and Board creates a spot to gather. The countertop is Barbados honed marble from Walker Zanger, and it surrounds an LG induction cooktop.

Wang and the owners were meticulous about the cabinetry. They hand-selected each piece of the oak veneer to line up perfectly across each front.

The renovated dining area is clad with the house's original cedar panels, which were re-milled.

The kitchen now features a seating area featuring a Moooi Container table, Hay chairs and a banquette upholstered in a crimson fabric by Kvadrat. The pendant is by &Tradition.

A semi-finished daylight basement is now an independent suite that can flex in use. Master Furniture Makers fabricated the custom-designed cabinetry, curved built-in seating, and wall treatment. Caesarstone ‘Fresh Concrete’ covers the kitchenette counters.

Tucked into a sunlit corner off the kitchen, the custom banquette pairs maroon velvet upholstery with a cozy, built-in feel. A thatched-texture wallpaper wraps the back wall, adding depth and warmth, while sculptural RBW sconces in organic forms create a soft, layered glow. Overlooking both the kitchen and the river, it’s a daily gathering spot for slow breakfasts and quiet moments.

A built-in banquette was designed to allow for views of the bi-weekly lakefront fireworks while also providing ample seating for the dining area within a fairly compact footprint.
