A simple composition in form, but intelligent in detail and execution, the peaked-roof dwelling is a stunning wood- and stone-clad living space.

The home is concealed behind horizontal bands of materials including Aji stone quarried from Shikoku, a powder-coated aluminum screen (lath), the white plaster exterior of the second floor, and a titanium zinc alloy roof.

The original home had been built into the hillside, and the firm kept that basic exterior form. The exterior door seen here accesses the separate en-suite room that can be used as a bedroom, storage, or flex space.

The sandstone entry court segues gracefully into a protected exterior area with a bench, creating an inviting threshold between outside and in.

This cozy lounge area captures golden hour sunlight. It features a custom-designed daybed and a Carlo Mollino floor lamp.

The kitchen features appliances by Dacor, countertops by Corian, and stools by Fyrn. The designers chose an electric range as part of their efforts not to use fossil fuel. The faucets are by CEA Design.

The house's front door, tucked under one of many cantilevering portions of the roof, comes after passing through an interior courtyard. "It’s not just an axial arrival to the front door," says Wright. "You come in and shift to the right, and cross a small bridge over the entry water feature. Those little shifts [help] guide a visitor to see these different points of view."

Minnesota–based Eastvold Furniture designs and produces high-quality furnishings that blend modern innovation and classic style. The Jackson Storage Bed was originally designed as a kid’s bed, but after discovering how excellent of a storage solution it was, Eastvold redesigned the bed for larger sizes. Crafted from solid birch plywood that is finished with a rich walnut veneer, the Jackson bed features built-in drawers, perfect for adding storage to smaller bedrooms, or warding off clutter from nightstands and dressers. The sleek platform bed also features exposed beveled edges, giving the Jackson a distinctive look while highlighting the expert craftsmanship of the bed.

Adjacent to the main living room are four custom bunk beds and a guest bedroom with a queen bed.

The residents, who live in Calgary, frequently entertain, and with 16 beds, bunks, and twin-bed-wide window seats, there is no shortage of places to sleep.

The girls' bedroom was designed for sleepovers and contains four full-size bunk beds and a banquette with a single-size mattress, all custom-designed by ABD Studio.

With space for shoes (the pair don’t wear any in the home), Rollerblading gear, umbrellas, and more, the deep entrance closet helps the couple maintain their minimalist interior.
