Arid Exterior
Architectural designer Sebastian Mariscal and project manager Jeff Svitak created a house in Venice, California, for Michael and Tamami Sylvester. Known as Dwell Home Venice for its role as an exemplification of modern architecture, the house is an homage to indoor-outdoor living. Photo by Coral von Zumwalt.
From the street, the home bears many of the hallmarks of an Eichler home. Its low roofline is in large part supported by glass walls. Clear cedar siding provides additional warmth. The exterior tiles used around the house are actually custom poured concrete from RJ & Associates Landscape Specialists.
Off the kitchen and through a sliding glass door leads to a side yard where the current homeowners’ daughter can play without the parents being worried about the pool. Even it’s a hillside house, it sits on a surprisingly flat piece of land that allows for lemon trees and multiple areas for outdoor living.
