ARCspace DTLA

This custom steel prefab 1280 sqft modular home in the heart of LA's vibrant Arts District was assembled and installed in just 48 hours and cost only $188k.
Film director and journalist Christian Johnston designed and built this as one of the early case study test houses for his "stealth" mode pre-fab home company Sustainable Building Council. It has proven to be one of the only scaleable solutions for California and it's affordable housing crisis capable of producing 480 units per month under $200 a sqft. This modern feeling house features some of the most cutting edge gird-independent power and water creation units in the country. It's first visitor was L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti who after seeing it engaged Johnston and his Sustainable Building Council to help design and build temporary housing and homeless shelters for Los Angeles. The company will unveil 18 new projects at the end of May throughout the country.
