The Passive House concept was introduced to the client because the CPHC/architects saw it as an exceptionally strong option for their needs when paired with Universal Design principles. These included a single story open floor plan featuring cork floors, a thresholdless shower, and large doorways for wheelchair accessibility.

Large cedar clad soffits extend into the home to reflect and diffuse direct sunlight onto the ceiling and cast a warming glow without intense direct light or overheating.

This ultra energy efficient home relies on extremely high levels of insulation, air-tight detailing and construction, and the implementation of high performance, custom made European windows and doors by Zola Windows.
