While there are potlights here, David and Darian rarely turn on the overhead light. “I tried to put in as much ambient lighting as possible… having direct light can be so harsh in a small space,” he says.

David built a record player nook into the corner. "We keep our record collection in the garage on the property and every week swap out 20 records," he explains. "We were so close to getting rid of our collection, but are so happy we were able to squeeze them in."

The elaborate pocket door was carved by David with a CNC machine.

Deep drawers add extra storage underneath the built-in sofa.

Even the espresso machine is built to slide out for maximum spatial efficiency.

Redwood panelling contrasts against the crisp white aluminum of the walls and ceiling.

David reports that the kitchen has accommodated all sorts of cooking challenges, despite its small footprint. "It hasn't prevented us from cooking anything yet."

The fixtures are unpolished brass, a material that’s already starting to patina. The countertops are made of a recycled, hyper-durable material called Durat.
