Knight laid out the landscape plantings around the duplex, which he delineated with Hardie board and wood siding, both painted in Benjamin Moore’s Burnt Sienna. He also built the low front fence out of rough-sawn cedar.

Joan has always admired midcentury design and architecture, so Signal added a slatted fir divider between the dining room and the guest wing, giving nod to the iconic era without straying from the home’s contemporary, Northwest appeal. A trio of George Nelson Bubble lamps follows the aesthetic lead.

Lots of curves and shapes occupy the living space outside Eric's office, complete with an Eileen Gray Bibendum chair, a Mira Nakashima table, Noguchi floor lamp, Molo stool, and Verner Panton rug. A yellow Fairmat panel and recycled polycarbonate make up the back wall.

The kitchen combines varying storage types, from white lacquered cabinets and glass-fronted ones to a floating shelf above the sink. The countertop is Calacatta Caldia marble, and the subway tile that clads the backsplash is from Heath Ceramics.

A vintage chest of drawers supports the playful forms of a Nesso lamp, designed by Giancarlo Mattioli for Artemide, and a collection of Holmegaard ceramics.

In the front courtyard, a raised bluestone patio was built off the new kitchen for casual meals and entertaining. The Eames Molded Plastic Chairs are from Herman Miller. The dining table and benches are from Room & Board.

An existing lightwell was filled-in to create space for a concealed laundry area at the rear of the main bathroom. Soft natural light pours in from the skylight over the tub.

With the help of Sarah Zames of General Assembly Design, Brian Crano and David Craig merged two apartments into one while preserving their general layout. One apartment serves as a space for entertaining while the other, housing a bedroom and home office, retains a more intimate character.

We actually stole 15" from the kitchen to squeeze in this bar.
