A Design-Savvy Hostel In Paris

The Toronto-based architecture and interiors studio DesignAgency creates a Paris hostel infused with local and global influences.

"The 10th Arrondissement has a very youthful and hip style to it, and we wanted each space to compliment that vibe," Mekhayech says. "We also fed off the multiculturalism that is Paris, playing subtle tributes throughout to certain ideals. It’s a real eclectic mix and we try to blend in all the colors, styles and fabrics."

"We feel that like with many things in the world, people have become much more design savvy and conscious about what things look like and how they function," Mekhayech says. "Because great spaces can be easily shared and promoted on social media, all aspects of travel are now designed, curated, styled, and made to be integrated into the lifestyle of the end user."

"The mission is about offering a cool, easy experience right from the online presence (check-in) all the way through to getting to your bed. Great design, amazing people, good food and an awesome shower. It’s about not being too fussy and having all the core elements that people value while identifying the elements that are excessive and drive the price up."

"Hosteling was always based on the personal sharing of information and great experiences—we wanted the design to play into that ethos," says Mekhayech. In addition to guest rooms, the Generator Paris has different bars, cafes, and restaruants within its walls.
