Produced by Emeco and designed by Konstantin Grgic of Munich-based KGID specifically for the museum, the Parrish Chair will be launched at Salone del Mobile in April of 2013.

Houston-based designer Barbara Hill is known for a stripped-down aesthetic that blends art-world cachet with Texas modernism. Vitra’s Slow chair sits in front of a powder-coated-steel bookcase made by Hill’s go-to fabricator, George Sacaris; it was originally built for the Houston house.

Books pepper the Toronto apartment, but most are housed in two libraries, one of which is dedicated to art and photography. It also features a Palms lounger by Dutch designer Frans Schrofer and the painting Any Number of Preoccupations by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. The second bedroom, which also functions as a library, has Vitsœ shelving and houses owner Kenneth Montague’s book collection.

Designed in 1959, and the most recognized and iconic piece from Polish-born design master Jorge Zalszupin, the Dinamarquesa chair takes cues from Danish design (dinamarquesa meaning Danish in Portuguese), with its elegant and clean lines.

Kate and Gerald enjoy the view up there most nights. The chair was salvaged from the original bach on site and reupholstered.

Where as many designers and architects created highly handcrafted pieces of furniture, Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner developed Brazilian design by venturing into mass-production with their company Forma. These lounge chairs were produced by Forma in Brazil during the 1950s and 1960s.

Architect Lina Bo Bardi embraced the vernacular design traditions while pushing new forms forward. Her use of not only wood but fabrics and leathers stand out in several of her designs. Her furniture was often designed only for her buildings. This group of chairs was created between the 1950s and the 1980s.

Chair Necessities The couple’s four Chair One dining chairs by Konstantin Grcic for Magis are among their most prized possessions. They had been given their dining table as a wedding gift but couldn’t afford enough chairs to surround it, so they opted for a wooden bench on one side and the Grcic chairs on the other. Davor says he’s pleased they purchased the chairs early in the design process before the budget got really tight. magisdesign.com
