Charles and Ray Eames built their own home, known as Case Study House No. 8, in Pacific Palisades, California, in 1949. Originally designed with input from Eero Saarinen, the house incorporates prefabricated parts, steel framing, and a colorful facade. The Eames's lived in the house until they passed away.

The Davises’ living room is filled with modern designs, including two lounge chairs by Jens Risom for Knoll and a BoConcept sofa. Mary Jo created the artwork.

Continuing the theme of incorporating old and new, the couple furnished their home with family heirlooms from Thailand, Germany, and China alongside modern pieces.

The kid-friendly stainless steel kitchen countertop exemplifies the design’s unfussy commitment to contemporary life. Yet, says Matthew Bardin, “you have all this history underneath you here.”

In the stairwell hangs a series of 1999 Vik Muniz works that resemble Andy Warhol’s iconic portraits of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, but are actually photographs of pooled ketchup.

A couple takes a minimalist approach to their Brooklyn apartment, focusing on supple materials, subtle gradations of color, and custom finishes by local craftsmen. Exposed brick adds plenty of texture to the room.
