A Ten-Story Sculpture Inspired by Stained Glass in an Historic Paris Store

In the Paris' venerable Printemps department store, two Toronto-based firms were tasked with enlivening a new atrium and creating a unique experience for visitors. YabuPushelberg, partnering with UUfie, designed this stunning steel "sail" embedded with vibrant dichroic glass.

Taking inspiration from the Printemp's cupola, this sculpture features petal-shaped pieces of dichroic glass: the glass changes color depending the viewer's position, thereby creating a visually dynamic experience for shoppers moving through and up the atrium.

With over 18 new escalators installed, the design has no shortage of potential viewpoints. The design is 82 feet tall, uses 140 tons of steel, and soars through the atrium thanks to its double-curved parabolic shape.
