From May 8–10, 2015, the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is hosting BKLYN Designs, an event that unites design, architecture, and art. For the first time, the Dwell Store is participating in the event, presenting a pop-up store installation that features the designs of Brooklyn brands and designers, alongside objects that have a decidedly Brooklyn look and feel. A part of Avandi’s Vice Versa series, the Adjustable Pendant Light is an exploration in two metal types, aluminum and copper. The innovative pendant light features an internal dimming mechanism that can be adjusted by turning the bottom shade up and down. The result is a truly customizable ceiling light source that can also be used as a table light when rested on a surface.

The Clug Bike Rack is an innovative storage solution for hanging bicycles or for supporting a bike on a floor. The Clug is nearly invisible when mounted on a wall, and is designed not only for minimalists who want to avoid the clunky look of a bicycle rack as well as people with limited storage space. The Clug is available in three different sizes that accommodate road, hybrid, and mountain bicycles.

Inspired by the traditional basket-weaving techniques of the Philippines, the Coiled Stool is comprised of hand-woven threads over a rattan core. Shaped in a classic tractor seat, the Coiled Stool can be used for seating, and is sturdy enough to be used as an occasional table. The coiled seat rests on four gmelina wood legs, and can be used in formal and casual environments alike.

The planter is made from a spun aluminum bowl that rests on an interior stem—a steel rod that travels through the base of the bowl, through the plant’s soil, and above the bowl where it hangs from a waxed black cotton cord. The result is a decidedly sculptural piece that carefully balances components to create an artful hanging planter.

Although compositionally simple, each print is comprised of several parts—the graphic is screen printed on 140 lb. arches watercolor paper, after which McGinnis fills the colored print with a hand-drawn line sketch. From there, the 100 percent cotton paper is mounted and framed in an ash wood frame. Shown: Yellow Leaf, Blue Horse, Blue Fern, Red Snake, Blue Elephant. Also pictured: Cherner Lounge Arm Chair, Nelson Bubble Lamp Criss Cross Ball Pendant, and Shapes Rug.

From Fort Makers, this mobile is a work of kinetic sculpture that evokes the work of mechanical engineer and designer Alexander Calder. The mobile is made from apple wood, which features a prominent wood grain that varies from each component within the mobile. These geometric shapes make the mobile feel more sculptural than playful, and it can be used as a statement-making art hanging.

Bold lines and geometric shapes— large rectangles embracing hexagons, pentagons, and triangles— define the piece in a colorful palette. The heathered colors of the woven rug make the hues soft and muted.
