At a renovated farmhouse on a 19th-century homestead, a gas fireplace fronted in weathered steel warms up the lofty master bedroom, whose spare decor is framed with beams discovered in a Pennsylvania barn. The Tizio desk lamp is by Artemide.

A tastefully spare selection of vintage pieces accents the warm knotty pine in the master bedroom of the Campbell home. The orientation of the room maximizes the picture window that replaced the original garage door. Campbell designed a closet in an alcove behind the wall at the head of the bed.

Dappled sunlight and reclaimed-wood floors and walls give the master bedroom a warm, peaceful feel. Giant sliding doors open onto a wraparound deck peppered with potted plants from the couple’s vacations in Brazil, Uruguay, the Netherlands, and Italy.

By the bed, the shelving pattern is meant to suit Vinciguerra’s tendency to read several comics and graphic novels at once.

Platner designed his own house in Guilford, Connecticut, in 1970, as a set of pavilions centered on a great room. At the center of the great room was a fur-covered sofa surrounded by more furniture, in tones of taupe and tan, of Platner’s own design.
