The renovated kitchen features limestone countertops, vertically oriented white Bedrosians Makoto porcelain tile, with custom ash cabinetry, maple floors, and Muuto barstools.

To preserve the original windows, there’s a cut-out at the back of the cabinetry that was filled with herb pots. “You want to feel that this kitchen is an intervention, not an original part,” says Kaplan.

It was important, says Kaplan, to define the kitchen area with the “heavy horizontal lid” that runs along the top of the windows. The custom stove hood echoes the lines of the original wainscot.

The custom cabinetry is painted Benjamin Moore “Rooftop Garden” and topped with Sea Pearl Quartzite. The island has oak cabinets with an ebonized maple counter, lined with stools by Joel Edmondson for Denver Modern.
