One of only two known properties designed by Richard Neutra remaining in Connecticut, The Corwin House in Weston is being sold by the original owner, Betty Corwin—who, in her 90s, still resides in the home. Corwin and her husband had been working with a local architect to design their family residence, when, unhappy with the plans, they reached out to Neutra’s office to see if they could be referred to another architect. The family hit the jackpot when Neutra himself reached out and said he would be happy to take on the project.

According to Rick Distel, the listing agent, Neutra’s original sketch for the home placed the master bedroom at one end of the house and the children’s bedrooms at the other. Corwin was uncomfortable with being so far from her children and voiced her concern.

Neutra, as the story goes, “Pat her hand and, with a smile on his face, told her to trust him. He explained that they could put in an intercom so that she could be in touch with the children and that she would come to appreciate the distance.” The house was built as Neutra suggested. “When she finished telling me the story,” says Distel, “she looked at me with a smile and said, ‘You know what? He was exactly right.’”

The Corwin House, 25 Huckleberry Lane, is being listed for $3,200,000 by Rick Distel of Compass Realty. The Corwin family is looking for a unique transaction that will allow Betty Corwin to spend the rest of her life in the home.
