The vintage trailer resurgence has spilled over into the rental industry, and we aren’t mad about it. Here are a few of our favorite trailer rentals that embrace a cool, comfortable, and contemporary aesthetic—and they’re relatively affordable to boot! Next time you find yourself on the road, consider bunking in one of these untraditional accommodations.

Joshua Tree, California

Musician Joseph August, along with his partner Justine Bennett and childhood friend Andrew Uhlhorn, started a little enclave of vintage trailer rentals in the dessert called Joshua Tree Acres, which we covered last spring. With four Airstreams and a pint-sized Shasta decorated in an earthy, pared-down aesthetic, this little oasis is the perfect place to unplug.

Muir Woods, California

A stone’s throw from Muir Beach and the Golden Gate Recreational Area, and a quick drive to Wine Country and downtown San Francisco, this ’80s trailer is ideally situated in the Bay Area. The old Silver Bullet is outfitted in a chic minimalist aesthetic and has cool amenities—like a quaint garden and a patio with an outdoor shower—so you can enjoy the benefits of NorCal’s fresh Redwood-scented air.

Yosemite, California

AutoCamp’s Yosemite outpost takes camping to the next level. Explore the grandeur of the Sierra Nevadas with all the comforts of home (win-win!) at this high-end campsite that offers luxury tents, posh Airstreams, and modern cabins for rent. After a day of exploring the area’s outdoor offerings, you can unwind at AutoCamp’s chic clubhouse, take a dip in the heated pool, or hang out by the fire.

Hico, Texas

Smack dab between Dallas and Austin in Texas’s Hill country, this Hico-based Airstream has a Southwestern flair with vibrant textiles, hand-painted tiles and weathered wood. Dubbed “Maria,” the ’66 trailer is equipped for cooking with a microwave, refrigerator, hot plate, and outdoor grill. And it’s just a quick walk downtown to Old West attractions like the Billy The Kid Museum and the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Portland, Oregon

Portland couple Cynthia Tuan and Shane Beers rehabbed a ’58 Land Yacht that we covered earlier this year and transformed it into a mod Airbnb rental in their backyard. The white, minimalist interior is warmed up with blonde wood cabinetry, reclaimed wood floors, and cozy textiles. And the bathroom isn’t the traditional tiny water closet you’ll find in most Airstreams. The duo created a pint-sized spa complete with stock tank tub.

Seattle, Washington

In North Seattle, an ’85 camper has had a total interior overhaul. The bright, cheerful space looks expansive, and with lots of windows, it welcomes in an abundance of natural light. There are plenty of amenities packed into the small space—including two bunk beds, a double bed, a dining booth, a kitchen with a stove, and a full bath. Charm abounds with cute decorative details and fun fabrics.

Colorado Springs, Colorado

In Colorado Springs, this ’64 Airstream embraces minimalism. The alabaster interior is welcoming with Southwestern fabric, warm woods, and brass fixtures. The pared-down aesthetic—decorated only with the essentials—makes it the perfect place to unplug without froufrou to distract. A queen bed and a sofa bed sleep three, and the trailer is equipped with a composting toilet and sink. Feel free to use the property owner’s backyard with picnic table, darts, and fire pit for alfresco entertainment.

Taos, New Mexico

It’s not an Airstream, but this yellow vintage trailer is too groovy to pass up. This Taos-based ’54 Silverdome is filled with midcentury vibes from stern to bow. Wood paneling and cabinetry, funky fabrics, cool metal fixtures, and unique artwork and tchotchkes make this rental one of a kind. Although the dwelling looks like it’s straight out of the ’50s, the plumbing and electricity have been updated, and it sports a fully equipped kitchen and a whimsical turquoise bathroom.

Burlington, Washington

Stripped down to a blank canvas, a vintage trailer in Burlington, Washington, was reimagined with an all-white minimalist interior. Vibrant orangey-red textiles and boho rugs make the open, airy space inviting. The ’73 trailer sleeps two, and it includes a kitchenette with a coffeemaker and refrigerator and a bathroom with a clawfoot tub. Situated in the backyard of an old craftsman-style home, the Airstream also has access to an outdoor shower.

Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

You can rent this Santa Rosa Beach–based ’69 International Sovereign for extended periods (month-long road trip, anyone?) and tow it along Florida’s Emerald Coast while stopping at an array of state parks and RV resorts. Embracing nostalgic charm, the vintage vessel has been gussied up with boho-chic decor. The 30-foot trailer sleeps four with a queen and two twin beds, and amenities include a full bathroom and a kitchen that can handle light cooking.
