The terrazzo trend is alive and kicking—and we’re not complaining. Here are 15 ways to bring the “it” material into your home.

Terrazzo—a versatile, composite material typically comprising marble chips in concrete—is suddenly everywhere. The material, which was a staple in U.S. homes in the 1970s, has seen a dramatic resurgence in recent years, from hip restaurants to modern bathroom makeovers.

There are many reasons this material could be making a comeback, but one of them could be its sustainable nature. Terrazzo was first commonly used in Italy in the 15th century by Venetian workers looking for ways to use discarded marble remnants: craftsmen would embed the chips in a layer of clay, sealing the surface with goat’s milk. Today, terrazzo can include a wide range of materials—glass, granite, porcelain, concrete, and more—making it both durable and eco-friendly.

With its colorful texture and retro aesthetic, terrazzo can be easily incorporated into any home. But if you’re not ready to commit to the trend through a permanent installation such as flooring or a countertop, here are a few simple ways to bring the look home.
