Originally opened in 1967, the infamous Watergate Hotel closed for a six-year, $125 million renovation before welcoming guests again in June 2016. Reclaiming its buzz-worthy stature, the storied hotel was rebuilt with an additional 85 guest rooms, 17,000 square feet of meeting space, and a rooftop bar. Now, the hotel once again has tongues wagging with its newest addition—a deluxe, transparent, geodesic globe on the rooftop.

“It’s one of the most iconic hotels in the world, one of the most famous in America,” says Rebecca Martin, CEO and cofounder of Terra Glamping, the event production company behind the experience. “And for me, personally, I lived about three blocks from there when I had my first apartment after college. So this is my old neighborhood.”

Dubbed “Urban Glamping with the Stars,” the experience is meant to meld midcentury and glam elements, the 12-foot dome harkening back to the 1960s with a crystal sputnik chandelier; a plush, velvet bed with a gold frame; a lucite butler tray; and a patterned area rug.

The $3,000 package also includes an all-night “secret service” butler, late-night marshmallows, a special turndown service with eucalyptus essential oil, and exclusive access to a VIP table at Top of the Gate with a moonlight round of cocktails. Guests are also equipped with a telescope with which to peer into the night sky, and a star-naming certificate.
