Looking at the well-illuminated, white-washed interiors, one might not guess that the house is in fact slotted into a 20-by-200-foot site—the size of an average back lane.

The team behind Randy Bens Architect worked with Moosehead Contracting and Falken Reynolds Interiors to create this minimalist family home on St. George Street in Vancouver, Canada.

“The unique site of the 2,200-square-foot St. George Street house inspired us to get creative with our design process and visually create more space,” says Chad Falkenberg, principal of Falken Reynolds.

Using a technique of atmospheric perspective, the design team incorporated 11 skylights to the interior. Not only did this allow walls to be washed with natural light, it also created the illusion of amplified depth.
