This modern cabin is planned for a site nestled in a pine tree forest along a small creek on the south-facing side of a mountain. Matika Architecture, an architectural studio based in Prague, Czech Republic, designed the home with nature in mind. The 1,130-square-foot cabin will be made from organic materials like “pure” wood, stone, and glass to help it blend in with its natural surroundings.

The ground floor will consist of an open-concept living space with a lounge and kitchen, along with the master suite and a large storage area for outdoor recreational equipment.

Floor-to-ceiling windows strategically placed along the main living room’s south-facing wall will offer up panoramic views of the property. They will also maximize daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Central to the first-floor living area is a stone facade fireplace with an adjacent bench. In addition to heating the home in the winter months, the chimney will also warm well water in conjunction with a heat pump.

Throughout the interior, blonde wood and a neutral, earthy color scheme add to the home’s atmosphere of peace and quiet.

The second floor will house visiting friends and family with two bedrooms and a bathroom. In the bedrooms, window sills will double as perches to view nature. The windows are designed so that they can be sealed off with folding wood shutters, giving the mountain hut’s exterior a seamless wood facade.

A large deck on the second floor will offer views of the property. The cabin's green roof—angled to echo the property’s sloped terrain—will create a habitat for wildlife.

Matika Architecture is currently awaiting planning approval for the project, and they hope to begin construction soon.
