A two-story structure didn’t meet the zoning code, but Neutra bypassed that roadblock with his design of a "gloriette," an outdoor room flanked by movable aluminum louvers. Steel was scarce at the time given the demand for it during the war, but that didn’t stop Neutra. The panels, which are still original, shelter the home against the harsh desert elements.
