The director prefers midcentury-modern design. Having dreamed of living in Philip Johnson’s glass house as a child, he found the style hard to come by abroad. "We don’t have it in Europe; it’s almost impossible to find," he says emphatically, so this property spoke to him instantly. "It had so many elements of what I love," he says. "It’s a very serene place. It has a spirit that if you treat it right, you get a lot out of it."
