Flexform Boldly Takes On the Great Outdoors With Launch of Covet-Worthy New Furniture Collection
Known for their carefully crafted sofas and timeless interior furnishings, Flexform has dipped its toes into the outdoor market with the highly anticipated launch of its first outdoor-centric collection. An unabashed celebration of alfresco living, Flexform’s signature cozy elegance has been thoughtfully translated for outdoor enjoyment. "Outdoor spaces, whether large or small; deck, porch, patio, or terrace, are increasingly becoming special places to enjoy every season," says Flexform’s Design Center. "Outdoor spaces are definitely nowadays worthy of the same design consideration as indoor spaces."
With roots in Northern Italy’s Brianza furniture manufacturing district, Flexform’s Italian-born design legacy has been cemented over an impressive 60 years of continuous operation. A third generation family business, Flexform has built a reputation for creating sofas and interior furnishings that prioritize timeless and comfortable design, understated elegance, and made-in-Italy craftsmanship. "Our products are crafted in one country – Italy – from design concept to finished products," says Flexform’s Design Center. "Our identity reflects our all-Italian values. Ours is an all-Italian success story."
The outdoor line is a creative marriage of brand new designs, as well as Flexform indoor originals which have been re-engineered for outdoor use. Guided by architect and designer Antonio Citterio, who has driven the brand’s aesthetic for decades, the Outdoor Collection also features reimagined designs by Mario Asnago and Claudio Vender, as well as Carlo Colombo. The Flexform Outdoor Collection "carries the same DNA as the interior collection," explains the Flexform Design Center – celebrating historical designs and preserving time-honored traditions of quality craftsmanship and cozy sophistication.
Designed for applications in both private residential and hospitality sectors, the versatile collection includes a wide range of seating systems, sofas, armchairs, daybeds, dining and occasional tables, as well as many complementary accessories. Taking the most meticulously design-driven interiors, and giving the same thoughtful consideration to open-air settings, Flexform has consciously elevated the standard for outdoor furniture. "We pictured people opening the sliding doors of their living room, where they had been sitting on a Flexform sofa, stepping out onto the terrace and making themselves comfortable on a Flexform daybed," says Flexform of their vision for a cohesive indoor/outdoor lifestyle.
Building on experience creating custom designs for yachts and resorts, Flexform’s Outdoor Collection came to full fruition after many years of careful research and development. "When we decided to start our Outdoor Collection, we were totally aware that we would have to bring out products that would have to adapt to very different climates," reflects the Flexform Design Center. It is for this reason that materials selection and construction were so carefully considered in the development of the outdoor concepts. Notable for its resistance to corrosion and rust, AISI 316 stainless steel is used in the construction of the majority of the frames. Epoxy coatings on stainless steel or aluminum frames ensure excellent color retention, as well as scratchproof durability. Available in a broad spectrum of color offerings, outdoor fabrics incorporate a water-repellent technology which prevents intrusion by water while simultaneously allowing air to circulate freely.
Both its celebrated product history and culture of innovation has allowed Flexform to grow from its small and local Italian beginnings to become an increasingly global brand. "Over time, we have built a reputation for ourselves in countries near and far – interaction with different cultures has broadened our perspective and helped us cultivate an openness to new experiences," says Flexform. With unwavering emphasis on distilled elegance, timeless modernity, and uncompromising comfort, the Outdoor Collection propels a storied design legacy into a new era.
