Moby’s Former Penthouse in Manhattan’s Iconic El Dorado Co-Op Lists for $5.8M

Located in one of the building's two iconic towers, this coveted four-level unit offers a top-floor library, not to mention sweeping views of the city.

The Eldorado, with its iconic Prewar design and location along Central Park West, is one of the most sought after co-op buildings in all of Manhattan. Designed by Emery Roth in 1931, the Art Deco building also counts a number of current and former celebrity residents, including Michael J. Fox and Alec Baldwin. Residences in the iconic structure are usually hard to come by, but for one lucky buyer, the building's coveted tower penthouse was just put up for sale.

Perched in the south tower of the legendary El Dorado building, the 'townhouse in the sky' spans across the top four floors, offering picturesque views of Central Park and Manhattan.

Formerly owned by musician and animal-rights activist Moby, the two-bedroom home sprawls across four levels, occupying the entire 31st - 34th floors of the El Dorado's south tower. The upper-most levels of the other tower are uninhabitable and currently hold a water tank, making this unit truly one-of-a-kind. Upon entry, an elegant stairway leads up to a grand corner living room featuring large windows overlooking the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir.

All of the 34 windows were recently replaced, and now invite magnificent sunshine throughout.

A renovated, marble-clad kitchen provides access to one of several terraces overlooking the city. Both bedrooms are located in a private wing, each offering a newly renovated bathroom and, of course, more views. A wood-paneled library awaits on the third floor, from which a spiral staircase provides access to a full-floor media room on the top level. Keep scrolling to see more of the apartment, currently listed for $5,750,000.

A timeless, wrought-iron staircase connects the unit's multiple levels. A small dining area sits between a half bathroom and the galley kitchen.

The bright and airy chef's kitchen features marble countertops, along with stainless-steel Miele and Sub-Zero appliances. The walls are clad in white subway tiles, complementing the cabinetry and contrasting with the refinished hardwood floors.

In total, the penthouse features several terraces with unobstructed views.

Here, the east-facing terrace also provides views of midtown and downtown Manhattan.

Swoon-worthy views await from nearly every room, including this one of the Jackie O. Reservoir in Central Park.

On the third floor of the home is a mahogany-aged wooden library, which can also serve as a third bedroom. A spiral staircase winds from the floor below and up to the top level.

Set on the 34th floor, a reading nook and media room offers some of the best views in the house—if not in all of New York City.

The Eldorado Penthouse 31D, located at 300 Central Park West, New York, New York, is currently listed for $5,750,000 by Frances Katzen of The Katzen Team at Douglas Elliman.
