To keep the design simple and elemental, Brenda and Tom treated the wall of cabinets and the center island and hood almost like furniture—not anchored to the ceiling above and floor below. As a result, you are able to take in the entirety of the space with no visual barriers (except for an upright element on the counter that shields the clutter of dinner prep from the sightline of the dining area).
