From the Architect: “Machagua is a holiday home located on a corner plot next to a wetland and just 100 meters from the beach. It was conceived as a large, sculpted coral stone that responds to the needs of the brief and the surroundings. The main volume runs from north to south with a break in the middle for the main entrance of the house. Toward the south lies the public program: living room, dining room, kitchen, and service facilities. This area opens up to the main courtyard to the west and a terrace with an outdoor barbecue and dining area. Towards the east, the house is closed off to the road. A large cement slab crosses the ceiling of living and dining rooms, from which large wood beams hang down, incorporating the main lighting. Over this slab is a second terrace for relaxing and sunbathing. The bedrooms face north and extend through a large yard divided into two zones: a hard zone with crushed shells and timber railroad ties, and a green zone that adjoins the wetland. Over the solid stone and bedrooms there is a second, smaller volume, which is more rustic in character. Completely clad in oak, it houses the primary bedroom and private terrace. Over this volume there is a third terrace with a 360-degree view over the sea and a grill on a large oak counter with a black stone surface. A large outdoor staircase connects the three terraces, increasing the outdoor space.”
