The Swanky Home of Famed Crooner Bobby Darin and Actor Sandra Dee Is Up for Rent
It's easy to imagine the posh parties that might have taken place at the home of American singer-songwriter Bobby Darin and Golden Globe–winning actress Sandra Dee. The eye-catching Hollywood Hills residence was built in 1955 by William Krisel and features an entertainer's layout capped by a butterfly roof. The current owner, hotelier Jason Pomeranc, tapped the late designer Jim Walrod to restore the home about a decade ago.
The distinctive butterfly roof is one of many original details still found throughout the 4,250-square-foot property.
A wooden divider separates the entryway from the main living spaces. Frosted windows sit on opposite sides of the door.
Although the home suffered disparate renovations in previous decades, current owner Jason Pomeranc brought designer Jim Walrod on board to restore and modernize the interiors.
Pomeranc, who is behind the SIXTY Collective of boutique hotels in Los Angeles and New York City, describes the resulting home as "a mystical attunement to the past" in a 2010 interview with Architectural Digest. The home now embodies "the aspirational expression of the California dream," he said. "It's the kind of house that you feel comfortable in by yourself or entertaining a hundred people." Clerestory windows run along top of the living room and kitchen, bathing each space in light.
Explaining the vision of the remodel, Walrod notes: "We wanted to play upon the legacy but make the elements normally considered kitschy really elegant."
Adjoining the living spaces is a large bar area.
In total, the home offers three bedrooms. Here is the master, which features an original stone fireplace that divides the sleeping area an adjoining sitting room.
The sitting area also features built-in bookcases and storage.
An ensuite bathroom is located just steps away.
An oversized soaking tub in the bathroom is swathed in Calacatta marble.
Another one of the three bedrooms includes floor-to-ceiling windows and beamed ceilings.
A large swimming pool awaits in the backyard, which is tucked into the hillside.
