Notes
Located in the heart of South Lake Tahoe’s Al Tahoe neighborhood, this urban cabin is situated within a 10-minute walk to the lake and nearby meadows. Functionally, it is a vacation home with two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus loft, with an emphasis on open communal spaces. From one end of the cabin to the other, the volume of space is arranged in a continuous, ritualized sequence of programs. The orientation of hardwood planks and ceiling planes delineate the cabin’s various spaces. Rather than a straight-forward, compact layout of functions, the cabin's form is attenuated, designed to slow down routines of familiarity in favor of prolonging spatial awareness. The cabin weaves through the forest. As nature shapes the cabin, the cabin shapes light, and the light, in turn, shapes us.
