Casa Xixim

On a narrow strip fronting a protected bay in Tulum, Mexico, this self-sufficient villa hotel merges home and nature. A path runs from a mangrove marsh through a palm grove and into the main living space, which can be fully opened. The path then continues to the beach beyond. The house’s eco-friendly design incorporates on-site waste processing and rainwater collection via artificial wetlands. The overhead solar array provides photovoltaic power and shades the roof lounge. The upper bedrooms open onto a series of planted terraces that mitigate stormwater flow and louvered doors capture breezes to cool the home.
