Lissa Gotwals is a photographer based in North Carolina, where she can be found growing new roots on an old turkey farm with her 2 spunky kids, industrious husband and a flock of Red Dorking chickens. She feels at home in the South, but she also has a constant longing to travel. Years ago, Lissa picked up the camera as a tool to explore and document culture. These days, her work has a broader focus, but she remains committed to sharing stories and connecting with the people with whom she works. Lissa owes her career to her experiences at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and The Independent Weekly in Durham, NC.
